In America, Freedom isn't Free

Ronald McDonald is under attack.

Corporate Accountability International – a watchdog group – wants McDonald’s to stop marketing junk food to kids. It also wants Ronald, the clown McDonald’s has used for decades in its advertising campaigns, to retire.

Whether or not Ronald promotes unhealthy food isn’t the real issue. The issue is personal rights and responsibilities. Corporate Accountability has absolutely no right to impose its views on our lives.

Watchdog groups often forget that America grew out of the pursuit of personal freedoms. We the People have a right to pursue our own version of life, liberty and happiness.

Liberty is the defining attribute of America. And yet, we kneel and unquestioningly accept the authority of the Nanny State – paying any tribute it demands and obeying all its edicts just because they come wrapped in an American flag.

Look no further than the inappropriately named PATRIOT Act, which hastily became law in the aftermath of 9/11. It gave the government sweeping authority to spy on individuals inside the United States.

Bob Bauman called it the “greatest single assault on personal and financial privacy in U.S. history.”

And yet, it’s a gross demonstration of just how far we are willing to go to surrender liberty and privacy.

But it doesn’t stop there.

More Signs that a Quasi-Police State Is
Taking Shape Here in America

The Nanny State recently threw a fit over dairy.

School officials in Washington, DC, and Fairfax, VA, both recently removed chocolate milk from their menus. They believe that it has too much high-fructose corn syrup and, therefore, is detrimental to the health of children.

Lost in this process is any common sense on the part of the Nannies.
(They also removed table salt, chicken nuggets, corn dogs and syrup for pancakes.)

As a mother, what a child does – or does not consume – is a parental issue. I am not sure when the state got a say in the matter. Of course, there are many examples of public officials stepping into our lives to impose their dictates.

In Arizona, officials want to impose a $50 a year fee on obese Medicaid recipients who don’t follow a doctor’s plan to slim down. It’s comical to think the equivalent of 14 cents a day is really going to incentivize a lifestyle change.

Congress has debated a tax on fast food and sugary soft drinks. And New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in recent years has launched campaigns against salt, trans fat and excess calories in restaurant meals.

I’m not saying the pursuit of a healthier lifestyle is wrong. And I understand government’s desire to offset the expenses of an unhealthy lifestyle by recouping some of the costs incurred by America’s heavy eaters, drug users and smokers – and now, chocolate-milk drinkers.

But fundamentally, we have a right to eat, drink and smoke all that we want, so long as those habits don’t infringe on the rights, freedoms and wallets of others.

Yet that’s exactly what a government-controlled healthcare system does. It imposes upon all of us the costs of caring for those who choose not to care for themselves. And it does little to help those who truly do not have the capacity to take care of themselves.

If you choose to down a 12-pack of Coors Light every night, you have that freedom as a sovereign individual … just as I have the right not to pick up the medical costs for your dialysis when your liver fails.

Unfortunately, America’s system does not promote self-reliance … it promotes reliance on government, at the expense of the governed.
And it gets worse … the government has come up with a way to use the tax system to limit our freedom of movement.

A recent report released by the Government Accountability Office claims the IRS could collect billions in owed taxes by blocking delinquent Americans from getting or using U.S. passports until they settle their alleged IRS debts.

Bob Bauman explains, “The GAO found that in fiscal 2008, Americans who received passports owed a collective $5.8 billion to the IRS and could owe much more, since that estimate only factored in one year’s worth of passport recipients.”

While less than 30% of Americans have passports, this is another sign that a quasi-police state is taking shape in America.

Time for Reflection and Vigilance

We frequently speak of freedom and liberty … often in terms of very real threats posed to both these precious commodities.

To observe that many have died for the American cause over the centuries accentuates the meaning and importance of the cause for which they gave their "last full measure of devotion," as Lincoln said.

Guard against the destruction of our rights and freedoms – whether the threat is from abroad or from within – to ensure that they did not die in vain.

The Truth behind Operation Fast & Furious

Operation Fast & Furious -- or as we have been calling it, “Project Gunwalker” -- is becoming a large scandal very fast and most furiously.

One media outlet referred to it yesterday as “worse than Iran-Contra.”

As you know, the anti-gun brass at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) conspired to force gun dealers to sell firearms to criminals who in turn walked those firearms across the border into Mexico and into the hands of dangerous drug gangs.
The BATFE administration blatantly ignored its own agents’ warnings in order to advance their anti-gun political agenda. By sanctioning and encouraging the sale, literally thousands of firearms ended up in the hands of violent Mexican drug cartels .The result?

At least two American law enforcement agents killed, one Mexican military helicopter shot down and over 100 Mexican officers killed or wounded.

That’s not counting the crime that could come in the future.

The BATFE purposefully armed men who are considered by our own Federal law enforcement agents to be more dangerous than al Qaeda.

And now, thanks to thousands of gun owners -- patriots who took action and called their Congressmen -- the anti-gun zealots who run the BATFE are facing a Congressional inquiry.

On Wednesday, after a full day of hearings, the Chairman of the US House of Representatives Oversight and Government Reform Committee had this to say regarding guns going into Mexico:

“Could that be a political decision? Could that be a decision that basically, we just want to substantiate that guns in America go to Mexico…?”

You see what’s going on here.

Let’s retrace the steps:
·  The Obama administration and Hillary Clinton State Department assert that most of the guns used in Mexican crimes come from America, and that in the name of regional stability "more restriction on law-abiding American Firearms owners are needed and the United States must sign on to the United Nations Small Arms Treaty.
·   The BATFE begins investigating this “claim”, and creates a “sting operation” to ensure American guns end up in Mexico. Then they force gun dealers to sell firearms to known criminals who smuggle the guns to violent Mexican drug cartels.
·    Agents on the ground in this investigation said that it was a horrible idea, but the operations were authorized and supported by leading officials in the BATFE and the Justice Department.
The mantra of the anti-gun Left is simple: “never let a crisis go to waste.”
And if there isn’t a convenient crisis, go ahead and make one up.

This is exactly the strategy Obama and his anti-gun allies have been practicing for years.

They will use this “crisis” to ram federal gun control legislation down the throats of American citizens.

But I know you won’t stand for it.

I’m going to remind them every chance I get, and remind them that you are behind me.

 AS A FOOTNOTE
Have you ever seen a bigger abuse of the law by an agency charged with "enforcing" it?

The more I read about the BATFE's outrageous actions during this Project Gunwalker fiasco, the more furious I get...

Did you know that when ATF field agents complained about how dangerous the idea of allowing guns to walk into Mexico was, one supervisor wrote in an email "if you don't think this is fun, you are in the wrong line of work, period!"

"Fun."

Apparently strong-arming law-abiding firearms dealers in America to allow criminals to straw-purchase weapons that would be used later to murder federal agents is "fun" to the ATF chain of command.

When yet another agent warned that this tactic could lead to loss of life, his the ATF boss told him "if you are going to make an omelets, you need to scramble some eggs."

This is what citizens -- and even lower-level federal agents -- are thought to be in the eyes of ATF big wigs: "eggs."

And if there were any doubt about what they were doing, ATF agent John Dodson, testifying before Congress last week, had this to say: "Allowing loads of weapons that we knew to be destined for criminals, this was the plan. It was so mandated.”

Well, in my eyes, the plan is a sick and twisted example of an Agency Gone Wild.

Did obama handle osama correctly-Me thinks not!

 Our anointed one was all to quick to take the glory of bringing down the most brilliant terrorist in modern history, but was basking in the glory immediately the right thing to do? Me thinks not and here is why;
Massive Security Breach
How could this administration allow the spectacular military raid that killed Osama Bin Laden be marginalized by the massive security breach (immediate disclosure of all information about this raid to the world) that served only to enhance the poll numbers of a president responsible for our national security?
By spilling his guts to the world Obama grasped defeat from the jaws of victory!
Obama could have gotten all the glory he wanted if he just could have given the military and intelligence community only a few more days to exploit the “mother Lode” of information we gained during this raid before he had to brag to the world about his heroic deeds!
The more I hear about the Osama Bin Laden raid the more concerned I become about the motives and the competence of this administration. Let me tell you why!
The first thing we should be concerned about with this massive outflowing of information about the raid is our lost opportunity to dramatically disrupt theal-Qaida organization.
It is now being reported that we got the “Mother Lode” of information during the raid.
For the head of a terrorist organization using only couriers to communicate with others it seems axiomatic that this is what we should have expected. The three types of information we got most probably include:
#1 - The locations of Osama Bin Laden’s immediate subordinates (the people most likely in line to take over as the leaders of al-Qaida upon the death ofOsama Bin Laden… couriers had to have this information).
#2 – Planning information on future operations (details about all major terrorist attacks planned for the foreseeable future).
#3 –Misc. matters necessary for al-Qaida to function (financing, communications, continuity of operation plans, organizational structures, strength, recruiting, training and standard operating procedures).
Common sense also tells us several other things that anyone could predict before the operation took place:
#1- If we said absolutely nothing after the raid no one in al-Qaida would know what happened. No one in al-Qaida, except the couriers, apparently knew where Osama Bin Laden lived. The Pakistan government, or any individuals who happened to know, could not admit they knew he lived there... at least in the media. If they protested the incursion and the downed helicopter we could apologize for a failed operation or whatever. If anyone knew Osama Bin Laden lived there they wouldn’t know whether he got away or anything at all… unless we spilled our guts, as we have done about the operation.
#2 – We would have a short period of time to exploit the “mother lode” of information we had just seized. The courier set-up Osama Bin Laden used would not work as the couriers were dead. It would take some time for al-Qaida members to find out what happened. When they heard anything they would not know much for some time and there would be a lot of doubt and confusion throughout the organization. If and when they did learn something definitive there would be a mass flurry of communication and our electronic surveillance apparatus would get some great information and leads. A lot of good things would happen. In contrast a lot of bad things will happen because we have laid everything out in great detail in the media that is going to every al-Qaida member in real time!
#3 – We could dramatically disrupt the entire al-Qaida organization in a number of very substantive ways in a very short time. We could do many things in a very short time to exploit a lot of this information before anyone in al-Qaida could react, such as take out all the likely leaders to succeed Osama Bin Laden, seize al-Qaida funds around the world, disrupt or kill people in cells on the verge of committing terrorist attacks, etc. They wouldn’t know what happened until it was all over!
I cannot imagine any of our military leaders or the people in the CIA not recommending to the president to keep his mouth shut for at least a short time to allow time to see what info we had and see what we could do before all the al-Qaida personnel relocated, transferred all the money out of existing accounts, etc. If our military and intelligence leaders didn’t make such recommendations they should be fired.
The country should be outraged at Obama throwing our country under the buss for a little good press and about a 9% immediate gain in the polls! Besides, he could have gotten even better press if he was smart enough to have held up this information for about two months and then been able to tell the world:
#1 – Osama Bin Laden was killed in a spectacular military raid, and…
#2 – We have killed the five most likely terrorists in the line of succession to take over al-Qaida, and…
#3 – 80% of al-Qaida financial assets have been seized, and…
#4 – We have disrupted four major future terrorist attacks against ourselves and our allies in our war against terrorism, and etc., etc.!
The second thing we should be concerned about with this massive outflowing of information about the raid is the dramatic increase in al-Qaida’s operational capabilities to avoid our future intelligence gathering capabilities.
Every day more of the details are put out about how we got the information that led to the death of Osama Bin Laden. We are also telling them exactly where, when and how they screwed up or had a lapse in security that let us break the case.
All this information is a wonderful guide to them on what they need to change to eliminate detection. If we think it was hard to track down their leaders before, wait until we try it the next time. Let us look at what happened the last time a president wanted to raise his poll numbers a bit. One of the reasons we had such a hard time finding Osama Bin Laden this time and a major reason we got surprised on 9-11 was because President Clintondisclosed that we were monitoring Osama Bin Laden’s satellite cell phone about the time of the Monica saga. After that small disclosure Osama Bin Laden stopped using his satellite phone and all electronic devices. He then went to the courier system and allowed few if anyone except a trusted courier even to know his location. After that almost all information from him completely dried up. If this disclosure of highly classified information had not happened we might have known about 9-11 in advance, the twin towers might be standing and 3,000 lives might not have been lost, not to even mention the cost of the wars that followed. As they said during WWII, Loose lips sink ships!
The Bottom Line:
Because Obama couldn’t wait for a very short time to see his poll numbers go up and brag about a military success at a later time:
#1 - Al Qaida gained valuable information that will provide them time to modify compromised operational plans and reposition leaders and assets.
#2 - The US was prevented from scoring as decisive and extremely damaging a blow against al-Qaida as would otherwise been possible without this security breach.
#3 - Al-Qaida was provided valuable information about their operational security failures.
#4 – All of the above will most assuredly enhance terrorist operations against us in the future at the cost of many American lives.
It is sickening to me to see Obama basking in success when he apparently has been an impediment rather than an asset to the country. He has ripped the possibility of one of the most successful military operations we have had in recent times from the jaws of victory and greatly diminished the brilliant efforts of our outstanding military force!

Canadian border a bigger threat than the southern border!

Well once again the American gov. is blowing a smokescreen over the fact that our southern border is "safer" than our northern border. Canada refuses, like it should, to protect its citizenry from the draconian US attempt to treat everyone like a terrorist! Most of these problems stem from the best "POT" in the world coming across the northern border. This so called threat would be eliminated if the USA caught up with the rest of the world and decriminalized the green tobacco! But instead, they accuse Canada of not going along with the American agenda of our ridiculous "War on Drugs" campaign. The figures are below.
So we treat our best trading partner with contempt, yet we GIVE mexico's calderon the key to the country with NO questions asked! Come in and sue our states, corporations and individuals with all the blessings of the obama gov. but lets slam Canada because they have far more individual rights than the USA!
I am amazed at the roving Canadian street gangs all over the country, killing law enforcement, border patrol, taking hostages, brutal slaying's, and forcing everyone to smoke BC Bud! You must read my last blog to get that joke if your not a Libertarian! Canadians have more guns per capita than the USA, yet less than 1/10 of 1% of gun crime. They also have NOBODY in jail for being in possession of a roach, saving millions a year per Province.
 Paranoia is nothing new with the US Border Patrol, as many of my friends have been placed on the "No Fly List" for the mere possession of rolling papers. Anyone that knows the price of tobacco in Canada is the highest in the world, also knows that many roll their own instead of $10 a pack "taylor mades". So if you were coming across the border to shop in the US where everything was much cheaper, on a regular basis, tobacco was 1 of those products. So the possession of rolling papers, without "Pouch Tobacco" accompanying it is, and has been since the 1970's grounds for expulsion, never to be eligible to enter the USA ever again. Has anything changed? Nope, but the possession list has now expanded to include everything from papers to tooth paste. The very last sentence just tops the cake, this is a joke. Last rant: Why is that over 100,000 Americans a MONTH are trying to get into Canada? Read this;

Canadian Border Bigger Terror Threat Than Mexican Border, Says Border Patrol Chief

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency has apprehended more suspected terrorists on the nation’s northern border than along its southern counterpart, CBP Commissioner Alan Bersin said Tuesday.
“In terms of the terrorist threat, it’s commonly accepted that the more significant threat” comes from the U.S.-Canada border, Bersin told a hearing of the Senate Judiciary subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees, and Border Security.
Bersin attributed the situation, in part, to the fact that the U.S. and Canada do not share information about people placed on their respective “no-fly” lists. As a result, individuals deemed a threat who fly into one country may then cross the land border into the other.
“Because of the fact that we do not share no-fly [list] information and the Canadians will not, we are more than we would like confronted with the fact where a [person designated as a] no-fly has entered Canada and then is arrested coming across one of our bridges into the United States,” he said.
As it screens air travelers, the Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration places individuals who are considered a threat to aviation on a no-fly list, which is a subset of the terrorist watchlist.
Bersin’s comments came after the subcommittee’s ranking Republican, Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, asked him about the relative numbers of people apprehended along the northern and southern borders.
He responded that the detentions and arrests along the border with Canada were “a small, small fraction” when compared to the number apprehended in the south. "That doesn’t mean that we don’t face significant threats” along the northern border, he added.
CBP figures for fiscal year 2010 indicate that 447,731 illegal crossers were apprehended along the southwest border and 7,431 along the U.S.-Canada border.
Cornyn noted during the hearing that the FY2010 arrests along the southwest border included 59,000 individuals from countries other than Mexico. Last March, the senator told a conference on border security that of those 59,000 people, 663 came “from special-interest countries like Afghanistan, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen and from countries that have been designated by the U.S. Department of State as state-sponsors of terror – Cuba, Iran, Syria, and Sudan.”
Speaking to reporters after Tuesday’s hearing, Bersin said his agency has recorded more cases of people with suspected terrorist backgrounds or links to terror organizations entering the U.S. from Canada than from Mexico.
“That doesn’t mean that we’re not looking for it on both borders, south and north,” he said.
Bersin said people who are on the no-fly list for a variety of reasons may enter Canada, “because they’re entitled under Canadian laws to do so, and then they attempt to cross into the United States” by way of bridge or tunnel border crossings.
“CBP officers have stopped that,” he said, but without quantifying the number of suspected terrorist arrests by CBP.
Bersin told reporters Canadian authorities do not act on no-fly list information provided by the U.S. government if it affects a Canadian citizen. This, he said, creates a security gap.
“Under the Canadian charter – as that’s been interpreted to me – they do not believe that they can accept information that would affect Canadian citizens, and therefore don’t.
“But we’re constantly working with our Canadian partners to develop mechanism and modes of information exchange [so] that, as far as legally possible, we can close that gap. And we’ll continue to do that.”

‘Known presence of terrorist organizations’
A December 2010 report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) concluded that “the risk of terrorist activity is high” on the northern border.
The report noted that according to the assessment of the U.S. Border Patrol – a component of CBP – only 32 of the nearly 4,000 miles of the U.S.-Canada border “had reached an acceptable level of control” in 2010.
The rest, it said, were “defined as vulnerable to exploitation due to issues related to accessibility and resource availability and, as a result, there is a high degree of reliance on law enforcement support from outside the border zone.”
The GAO report also noted that in the Blaine sector – the Border Patrol sector that includes Oregon and the western half of Washington state – there is a “known presence of terrorist organizations” near the border.
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director John Morton, who testified alongside Bersin Tuesday, told the Senate panel that his agency has about 1,500 enforcement and removal officers on the northern border – the “largest law-enforcement footprint of any U.S agency in Canada.”
“We removed about 47,000 illegal aliens from the northern border region, roughly half of whom are criminal offenders,” added Morton.
The issue of drug-smuggling over the northern border also came up during the hearing. In his prepared remarks, Bersin said that CBP interdicts around 40,000 pounds of illegal drugs each year at and between points of entry along the northern border.
He told lawmakers that the U.S. government will deploy military-grade radars along the northern border in November 2011 in an effort to thwart low-flying aircraft used to smuggle narcotics into the U.S.
